Hardware:

The Log Cabin Hardware, on the river  near the Portage Lake Boat Launch (9280 McGregor Road), is the best place to go before you make that 1/2 hour trip to one of the faceless big box stores.

Tackle Stores/Bait Shops:

The Golden Drake Fly Shop is located inside of the Log Cabin Hardware (9280 McGregor Road near the Portage Lake Boat Launch).  Craig has a great selection of tackle and bait, and his knowledge of the river and fishing is outstanding.  Worth a trip no matter which part of the Huron you're fishing.

On display at the Golden Drake once in a while, is Craig's custom made fly....  we keep telling you the fish in the Huron are HUGE!

Resturants:

Perhaps the most famous of the Huron River establishments - Zukey Lake Tavern on, of course, Zukey Lake. Great food, nice place to stop (has a dock for boaters!)...

On the -other- chain of lakes off the Huron is the Dam Site Inn, located, of course, in Hell, Michigan.

A twist on the concept of "curb service" is Riverside Pizza, just north of the Portage Lake dam. This location has gone through a number of transformations, but the current owners have found the key to good Pizza. Personally, I recommend the Spinach and Feta Pizza....

Real Estate:

Nick Lacy with Edward Surovell Realtors has been spending summers on the Chain of Lakes since his childhood. He has a special interest in the area and continues to keep an eye on lake front properties. He sends out an email of new real estate listings on the Chain of Lakes every two weeks. To keep up with what's for sale in the area, send him an email: nlacy@surovell.com

Lady of the Lakes, specializing in waterfront property.

Attractions:

No trip to the area is complete without being able to say you've "been to Hell". Hell Michigan is located on the western chain of lakes off the Huron. Map to Hell

Located on the Huron River, just north of the Mast Road bridge in Dexter, is the Dexter Cider Mill. If you're doing a fall canoe trip down the river this is a must! Map to the Cider Mill

Docks/Boatlifts/Seawalls:

Michigan Shoreline Construction out of South Lyon is a licensed inland lakes marine contractor, according to their web site: "Michigan Shoreline Construction strives to be the best through offering the highest quality docks and lifts, as well as quality constructed seawalls built to last. We have taken the time to research, test and prove our products thoroughly to ensure 100% customer satisfaction."

They can be reached through the link above or at 248-446-1149.

Water's Edge in Waterford, Michigan, creates custom waterfront docks and decks. They can also be reached at 248-618-9292.

Marinas:

Klave's Marina (800/582-2416) is located on the south shore of Big Portage, and it's the only full-service marina on the chain with a gas dock, so plan accordingly.

Klave's Marina has a fifty year history at Portage Lake. Five generations of the Klave
family have grown up here. The business has contributed to the community in many ways such as, sponsoring little league softball teams for more than twenty years, contributing to many local churches and schools, contributing to local theatrical groups Gleaners Food Bank, LACASA, Relay for Life and countless other charities.  The Klaves started
the Portage Lake Fireworks many years ago and are still the single largest source of labor and money to the fireworks display. They have also strived to be proactive in environmental concerns and have won environmental awards and accolades such as
the Waste Not Partner Award from Washtenaw County Environmental Health. They are currently one of thecharter marinas to participate in the Clean Marina
certification project in the State of Michigan. Klaves has Free Boating Safety Classes and service and repair all of the Washtenaw County Marine Patrol Boats
as well as most of the DNR boats that are used
locally.

Along the west shoreline, the Portage Yacht Club (734/426-4155) is hard to miss. Use of the Yacht Club is for members only, but it does encourage new memberships. The club offers a find dining room, a marina, an extensive sailing program, a family beach, and a spot for members to launch small boats, canoes, and kayaks.

On the western shore of Zukey Lake is Zukey Lake Marina (810/231-3800). They offers a boat launch, hoists, dockage and basic bait and tackle.
